Roofing Before & After in Austin, TX
Talk is cheap when your roof is leaking. We could spend an hour telling you about our flashing details and nailing patterns, but the fastest way to understand what Mercer Roofing Co Austin does is to look at the roofs themselves. The before-and-after projects below show real repair and installation scenarios we handle across Austin neighborhoods, from the limestone hills west of MoPac to the flat, sun-baked lots east of 183. The work speaks, so we’ll keep the commentary short.

Hail-Damaged Shingle Replacement in Circle C
Before
AfterThe problem: a spring hailstorm left half-dollar-sized bruises across the southwest-facing slope. Granules were piling up in the gutters, and the shingles looked like they’d been worked over with a ball-peen hammer. We tore off the damaged field, replaced the underlayment where it had been exposed, and installed new GAF shingles with a written price the homeowner approved before we unloaded a single bundle. The result: a uniform roof that sheds water cleanly and matches the original color closely enough that the neighbors never noticed the work.
Leaking Roof-to-Wall Flashing in Hyde Park
Before
AfterFlashing is the thin metal that keeps water from sneaking in where the roof meets a wall, chimney, or skylight. On this 1930s Hyde Park bungalow, the counter-flashing had pulled away from the stucco, and water had been finding its way into the wall cavity during hard rains. The fix meant cutting back the old flashing, installing new step flashing shingle-by-shingle, and resealing the counter-flashing with a proper cleat so it can move with the house. The before photos show rust streaks and a gap you could fit a paint scraper in. The after photos show clean metal, tight seams, and a dry attic after the next storm.
Complete Roof Replacement in Mueller
Before
AfterThe old roof was a 2002 three-tab that had curled, cracked, and lost its granule surface to two decades of Texas sun. The homeowner wanted something that would last more than another ten years and look right on a Mueller row house. We tore everything down to the decking, replaced two sheets of water-damaged plywood, laid new synthetic underlayment, and installed CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Moire Black. The transformation is the kind where you forget what the old roof looked like within a week, because the new one just looks like it belongs.
Decking Rot Repair After a Slow Leak in Brentwood

Decking is the wood layer under your shingles, and when a small leak goes unnoticed for a couple of years, decking is what pays the price. On this Brentwood house, a cracked pipe boot had been dripping onto the same sheet of OSB since about 2021. The board was soft enough to push a screwdriver through by hand. We cut out the bad section, replaced it with new OSB, flashed the pipe boot properly, and then re-shingled the area. The before photo shows the blackened, sagging decking after we pulled the shingles. The after photo shows clean wood, new felt, and a roof that will actually hold a nail.
Storm Damage Repair in Tarrytown

A June microburst peeled back a section of shingles along the rake edge of this Tarrytown roof, exposing the underlayment and leaving the decking vulnerable for two nights before we could get out there. We didn’t just glue the old shingles back down, because a shingle that has once lifted rarely seals again. Instead, we removed the damaged area, checked the decking for moisture, replaced the underlayment, and installed Owens Corning Duration shingles matched to the existing color. The before photo makes it look like a giant opened a zipper on the roof. The after photo looks like the storm never happened.
Flat Roof Re-Cover on a Carport Over in Allandale

Flat roofs fail differently than pitched roofs. The sun does the damage instead of wind, and the surface eventually looks like dried-out river mud: a pattern roofers call alligatoring. This Allandale carport roof had reached that point, with visible cracks and one soft spot near the scupper drain. We stripped the old membrane, replaced the wet insulation at the drain, and installed a new two-ply modified bitumen system. The before photos show a gray, cracking surface. The after photos show a smooth, uniform black membrane with proper drain flashing, ready for another couple of decades of Texas heat.
